In order to reach out to prospective students in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area, JCMU attended Washi Con last Saturday! Washi Con is a free annual Japanese media convention held at the College of Business on Eastern Michigan University’s Ypsilanti campus. Though a newcomer to the convention world (last year was the first time Washi Con was run), the event drew hundreds of community members interested in anime, manga, video games, and so on.
Attendees of all ages stopped by the JCMU booth to discover our study abroad options in Hikone. Many were excited to learn about the various collegiate programs we offer, and some younger students were surprised to discover that we administer the Michigan – Shiga High School Exchange. Students from nearby schools, including Wayne State University, Eastern Michigan University, and the University of Michigan, were excited to find out that they receive automatic scholarships for all JCMU programs just for being members of the JCMU Consortium. Many JCMU alumni stopped by our booth as well, including the chair of JAFAX (a large anime convention held every summer in Grand Rapids).
As was the case at Youmacon, the biggest star of the JCMU table was Hikonyan! One Chainmail Deadpool cosplayer even decided the Hikonyan would be the perfect evil genius lap cat:
JCMU would like to thank Washi Con for the opportunity to participate in this great event. We hope this helps more students become aware of the study abroad possibilities available to them and encourages them to study abroad in Hikone. If you were a Washi Con attendee that visited our booth and would like to learn more the wide array of programs that JCMU offers, please visit the JCMU website.
JCMU is also excited to announce that we will have our own both at Shuto Con in Lansing, MI this March! If you will be in attendance, please stop by our booth.
