It is hard to believe that 25 years have passed since Shiga Prefecture and the State of Michigan opened JCMU. When JCMU started in 1989 there were many similar programs around Japan. For many reasons, those programs dwindled, and the bonds of friendship that started them ended. Fortunately for thousands of JCMU graduates the bonds that created JCMU could not be broken so easily. Michigan and Shiga still stand strong in Friendship and look forward to 25 more years of JCMU.
Of course, JCMU’s success could not have happened without its excellent programs, faculty, staff, and students. Despite its humble beginnings on the shores of Lake Biwa, JCMU has become one the premiere Japanese language programs in the world. We couldn’t have done it alone and appreciate the 25 years of undying support from the people of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, and of course Michigan.
We at JCMU will do our best throughout the next year to share pictures and memories from the past 25 years. Please feel free to share your pictures and stories with us so that we can get the word out to the next generation of JCMU students. We are waiting for your pictures and memories at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you in advance.
